How is online continuing professional development provided through this website?

Continuum courses consist of a self-paced, audio-visual Flash presentation which includes a voice-over by the presenter. All courses include an assessment which allows you to obtain formal continuing professional development (CPD) points.

What equipment and software do I require?

You will need a Windows or Macintosh computer with:

  • A 500MHz or faster CPU and at least 128MB of RAM
  • An internet connection of at least 56Kb/s (broadband is strongly recommended)
  • Adobe® Flash® Player 8 or later (the latest version is recommended)
  • Speakers or headphones

Please contact us if your system doesn't match these requirements to see if there is an alternative method of delivering the course to you.

Do I need to log on to access these online courses?

You will be able to browse this site and the course outlines without logging on however, to purchase a course you will need to log on. If you are an Australian Institute of Architects member, you will log on as you would to the Institute's website, with your member number and password. Discount prices are available to members.

Can these courses meet my continuing professional development obligations?

These courses will contribute to your continuing professional development obligations. They will meet the requirements of the RAIA Continuing Professional Development Policy and the AACA/RAIA Joint Policy on CPD. They meet the requirements of the NSW, Queensland and WA Architects Registration Boards. You will need to review the specific requirements of the Architects Registration Board of any jurisdictions in which you are registered.

Each course has stated learning outcomes and relates to the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia's Competency Standards.

What are my purchasing options?

You will need a credit card to pay for a course online; the website will guide you through this process. To make use of the shopping cart feature, login before you start looking for courses.

You can also pay using a course credit code. This is a bulk purchase system whereby a pre-arranged number of courses is purchased from the Institute in one lump-sum payment. Users then use the course credit code issued by the Institute to enrol in courses, up to the number of pre-arranged courses. This purchasing system is ideal for organisations looking to give their employees flexible access to Continuum's quality CPD courses. For more information about course credit codes, including pricing information, please look here or contact us.

For details (including pricing and ordering information) regarding the standard bulk purchase system, which is suitable for organisations looking to provide more targeted CPD to their staff, please look here or contact us

You should also contact us if you do not have access to a credit card.

How to use the course interface?

The interface may change from course to course. However, this video will explain some of the main functions of the course interface, common to most courses. If you require any further assistance, contact us.

Can I return to a course once I have commenced it?

Yes, you can pause a presentation and review earlier material or return to it later. However, you must complete the questions in one sitting in order to ensure you retain all your answers.

No, you can complete the course in your own time.

When you complete all the components of a formal course you will be emailed a Certificate of Completion. This will also be available on the website under 'My Courses'.

What technical support is available if I require it?

Technical support will be available between 9am and 5pm Australian Eastern Standard Time by email at continuum@architecture.com.au or telephone on 03 8620 3877 .

What do I do if my sound is not working or too low?

First check that your speakers are turned on and plugged in. You may have to adjust the sound on your computer/monitor/external speakers.

The controls for the sound in the presentations can be overridden by controls for sound in other applications, even if that application is not open. If you have previously been listening to audio and have lowered or muted it, you may have to return to previously used applications and make adjustments, even though that application is not currently running.

If this fails to solve the problem, email us with your contact and user details, the course you are registered for and the nature of the problem.

What do I do if I can't view the Continuum courses properly?
